LinkedIn has been a huge factor in my success as a salesperson for the primary reason that connecting with a large group of people means I'm able to search through approximately 15 Million executive decision makers at BIG companies. Now I can get inside info on the client before I call.
I have a linkedin advanced search engine over on my blog -- anyone who's skeptical of professional networking sites should try out.

However, like any other resource, you have to put the time into it in order to get anything out of it.
The number of people you have access to to search on LinkedIn is proportional to the number of connections you make. Keep that in mind!
